2013 Cannondale SuperSix Tiagra

Season:2013

Brand:Cannondale

Code:BYCDM3RSS6C

In 2004 Cannondale announced the release of their first foray into structural carbon frames with the Six13. The Six13 utilised an Aluminium rear triangle and carbon tubing in the front, chemically and mechanically bonded to an aluminium headtube and bottom bracket. Back in 2005 this bike was well ahead of its time; it was emblazoned with the slogan ‘legalize your Cannondale’ which referred to the imposed 6.8kg weight limit for bikes partaking in UCI sanctioned races. It went against the trend of including carbon stays for comfort and instead took advantage of the stiffness of aluminium to create a bike that was both fast and light, a combination that was all but unheard of.

Three years later in 2007 the SystemSix was introduced, with an even more developed approach to the use of structural carbon fibre. The SystemSix did away with the aluminium head tube and instead bonded an oversized and asymmetric carbon front end onto an exceptional aluminium rear. Similarly to the Six13 this bike bucked the fashion to thus create an almost perfect race bike which went down a storm with both the professionals and consumers alike.

For the 2008 season Cannondale released the first iteration of the SuperSix; the master stroke. As you may know the numbers 6 and 13 relate to the atomic numbers of carbon and aluminium respectively, thus the ‘Super’ 6 indicates the company’s realisation of a dream to create a bike that simply outdoes all others. The SuperSix was then and is now something of a revelation; you could not only have your cake but you could eat it too. At the front end elements of the SystemSix are apparent - the confidence inspiring handling has been achieved by using a deep radius headtube in combination with a 11/8" - 11/2" headset and tapered carbon fork; these features offer direct and accurate steering and a solid front end feel - even when sprinting - that lets the rider command the bike without fear of being caught out.

Cannondale have achieved the incredible ride feel with several proprietary technologies not least of all the BB30. The BB30 is a Cannondale invention that uses a press-fit bearing and huge 30mm crank axle and is now in its12th year - it has revolutionized the Crank / Bottom Bracket interface and is the industry standard with unmatched stiffness to weight numbers. The BB30 provides maximum torsional rigidity helping to transfer your efforts into forward momentum and this is further enhanced in the SuperSix by housing it in what Cannondale call a BeatBox - essentially a hugely oversized Bottom Bracket area. All this and without a weight penalty.

The comfort is delivered by both the carbon lay-up and the subtle hourglass shape of the seat stays which furnish the rear end with the ability to absorb road buzz and vibration improving not only comfort but control by helping rear wheel stability, a feature derived from the Synapse, hence ‘S.A.V.E’ which translates to ‘Synapse Active Vibration Elimination’. These bridged that gap between the aluminium rear of the SystemSix and a comfortable ride; the SuperSix not only provides the exceptional balance and responsiveness that one expects in one of the best race bikes in the world but it won’t shake you to bits before you’ve finished.  We are always pleasantly surprized by the smooth yet precise feel of the SuperSix when compared with many more expensive carbon road bikes; it has a ride quality that makes you feel like a pro and positively encourages you to push yourself.

The SuperSix Tiagra is a nimble road machine with huge pedigree and is designed to offer a great blend of light weight, incredible acceleration and comfort. It delivers. The bike features Shimano 10 speed Tiagra components with FSA Omega BB30 chainset and Shimano R501 wheels. Finishing kit is Cannondale's own C3 Series aluminium handlebars, stem and seatpost. The bike is available in 8 sizes from 48cm to 63cm.
