Giant Trinity Composite 1

Season:2012

Brand:Giant

Code:840730

The 2009 Tour was notable for the epic battle between Contador and Andy Schleck and the emergence of Bradley Wiggins as a serious Tour contender.

That particular tour also saw the introduction of the Giant Trinity Advanced SL,  at the time “the fastest UCI legal TT bike on the planet” and the first of the new breed of time trial bikes around today.

It was ground-breaking in the emphasis placed on aerodynamic advantage, Giant’s engineers stopped at nothing to create the very fastest bike that money could buy.  The Trinity is so advanced and so fast in fact, that many of the competing teams’ star riders were contesting the individual TT stages on blank or black Giant Trinitys - devoid of the logo of their individual bike sponsor.

The Trinity Composite is an exercise in bringing this technology to the mass market. The frame shares many of the essential features of the Advanced SL as ridden by the pros; the down tube is a huge, deep section tube - bladed to cut through the air whilst the bottom bracket area is massively oversized in order to maximize stiffness and power transfer. The front and rear brakes are both shrouded behind the fork and chain stays respectively in order to present as small a disturbance to the air as possible.

The geometry of the Trinity Composite is similarly aggressive and whilst it lacks the integrated stem, crown and fork assembly and the distinctive ‘nose’ of its more expensive counterpart this allows for greater adjustability and superior handling characteristics. The conventional fork, stem and steerer combination allows for a far greater turning circle and vastly improved braking capacity as the cables do not have to route in quite such an obscure pattern. The Press-Fit bottom bracket offers incredible stiffness for efficient power transfer and the tube profiles minimise the surface area presented to the wind.

For riders looking to make their mark against the clock in Time Trials or Triathlon then, this bike is very confidence inspiring; a slightly longer frame is a little more planted and as mentioned earlier the cornering at low speeds is completely without frustration.

This bike is fast, very fast.

All the research, development and innovation that make the Trinity Advanced SL such an incredible and ground-breaking bike can be found to some degree in the Composite version. A slightly different Toryca carbon fibre (one formed slightly quicker and therefore at a lower cost) is used for the frame but still offers 95% of the stiffness and strength found in the fibres of the Advanced SL.

As with Giant’s introduction of the Compact frame in 1989 - Giant have designed the Trinity Composite to be as close to be the pro level machine as possible and therefore offer a competitive advantage but at an accessible price for the wider cycling community.

The Trinity Composite 1 TT bike comes equipped with a mix of Shimano Dura-Ace and Ultegra components which are both light and reliable. Shimano's R501-30 30mm wheels offer a good balance of light weight and aerodynamics - excellent for a wide range of TT and Triathlon courses. Giant's Vector seat post allows for adjustment of the effective seat tube angle so the rider can tune the ride enabling them to find the perfect, aggressive position. The Advanced grade composite provides a smooth but efficient ride which keeps you comfortable but competitive.
