Pinarello GREVIL F Gravel Bike with EKAR in 301 Iceland Black

Season:2024

Brand:Pinarello

Code:PGFBLK

The new Pinarello Grevil F - as the name suggests - takes its lead from the Dogma, delivering everything to keep you fast and save you valuable watts while racing. At the same time, considered geometries and the ability to accommodate both 650b and 700c wheel/tyre combinations, deliver versatility enough to keep you smiling when the race is done and you just want to explore.

At the heart of the Grevil F is a racing pedigree and if you are hunting a podium in a Gravel race, this is the bike for you. The Grevil F is the off-road DOGMA.By now we all know that even off road, aerodynamics count. Pinarello has been pivotal in the era of 'marginal gains' and they know very well that every watt saved gives you a better chance of victory. With major Gravel races often exceeding 200km and speeds reaching 70km/h, the GREVIL F’s design puts a major focus on aerodynamics and rigidity.

As mentioned, the Grevil F draws from the flagship DOGMA F road frame, so it comes as no surprise that many aerodynamic features of that platform, can be found across the Grevil F:

At the front, the Fork Flap stabilises the flow of air on the front end and greatly improves the aerodynamic penetration coefficient.

The Flat-Back tubing profile (now widely employed across the industry) and derived from the DOGMA, is a tubing profile that reduces aerodynamic drag on the tube, and this is especially effective when there are water bottles present.

Like the majority of the Pinarello range, the complete integration of all cables and hoses through handlebar, stem and frame known as TiCR (Total internal Cable Routing) yields an aero saving of 85% of the cable and wire drag. The remaining 15% being the result of the short housing portions exposed externally on the frame and necessary for connections with the brake and disc calipers. This dramatically enhances frontal aerodynamics. In addition it also allows for simpler mounting of frame and bar bags.

These aerodynamic enhancements are married to focused changes in the geometry of the Grevil F and are both a step forward on older models, as well as being in-line with wider changes in geometry seen in the Paris and Prince ranges. Like the Paris and Prince models, the new Grevil F features differentiated geometry and fork rake to ensure the same trail and the same control across all frame sizes. This approach better serves the rider population while remaining completely valid across genders and serving ‘outlying’ taller and shorter riders.

This may not sound like much of a feat but needs to be viewed in the context of a brand famed for the ‘feel’ of the ride that they create. Simply changing numbers can result in horrendous ride characteristics - something Pinarello absolutely will not compromise on.

The focus of the geometry changes has been in the area of Stack and Reach. These Stack and Reach changes have allowed Pinarello a wide spread and smoothly transitioning range of stack and reach profiles, making finding the correct size a simpler affair.

Simply changing the stack and reach alone, is not enough to guarantee a good ride. Pinarello have differentiated the rake on the front fork of the smaller sizes (from 50mm to 55mm) in order to standardise the ‘Trail’ of the front end; a key aspect when delivering a particular ‘feel’ or handling characteristic. This approach translates into a consistent ride feeling between all sizes.

As you might expect from a gravel bike when compared to a traditional road bike, the GREVIL F has shorter reach and higher stack to create an elongated rather than full on-race position, offering better comfort and better handling on loose / irregular surfaces. Further to this, the seat tube angle is increased to allow for greater tyre clearance which in turn allows for greater comfort and traction when using high volume tyres. In combination with Chain stays measuring between 422 and 425mm, the Grevil F deftly balances responsiveness and comfort and allows for the use of either 650b or 700c wheels while maintaining the all important ride feel.

At the rear of the Grevil F is Pinarello's TWINARMS - a stay design that aims to deliver maximum energy transmission to the rear wheel while soaking up the vibrations from the trail, to deliver a smooth and predictable ride while at the same time keeping the Q-factor (lateral distance between the pedals) similar to a road bike

TwinArms feature a right chain and seat stay that are rotated downwards, making both rear triangles symmetrical with a uniform response to pedal strokes. Having two different connection points between seatstays and seat tube disperses and off-loads the energy received through the rear axle. The result is the seat tube being able to absorb this energy in a more efficient way. The Grevil F is designed primarily for speed - to tackle the Gravel and Adventure races that are springing up across the globe. As such, the Torayca T700 frame - that carefully blends High Modulus and High tensile fibres - is not peppered with a multitude of mounts, but rather just the single additional bottle mount on the underside of the downtube. It still features a removable front derailleur mount and an Italian threaded bottom bracket - the bottom bracket itself some 8% stiffer over the previous model. In addition, the Grevil F uses a seatclamp mounted fore of the seatpost to reduce dirt and dust ingress.

All told the Grevil F is a voracious trail muncher that keeps you comfortable, stable and fast when you need it, but that is versatile enough to allow you to switch it up when you want to change your approach.

The Grevil F with Ekar partners the frameset with a full complement of Campagnolo's dedicated and ground-up developed, 1x 13 speed EKAR gravel groupset. EKAR delivers considered and capable performance for off-road racing and riding.

Finishing kit is a suite of Pinarello's own Most components. The Jaguar XA GR TiCR aluminium handlebar is partnered with the Tiger Aero Alu TiCR stem and Most Ultragrip Evo tacky tape. The proprietary aero seatpost is married to a Most Lynx Ultra saddle. Wheels are Fulcrum's Rapid Red 500 Disc in 650b and these are shod with the versatile Maxxis Rambler. Signature Pinarello styling and ride feel are a given, of course.

Available in the UK in B303 Champagne Gold or B301 Iceland Black colour options.
